Hijrah signifies a new era for the Muslim ummah.
1. literally, hijrah means migration. migration of Prophet (S) from mecca to medina marked the foundation of the first Islamic state and the beginning of a new civilzation.
2. hijrah, in essence is a process of transfer to a better situation. it is not meant to find a comfortable place where one would relax and stop endeavor. rather, it is a search for an environment more favorable to continuous and constructive effort.
3. once in medina, Rasulullah (s) and his sahabas, both muhajireen and the ansars, transformed the city from a little known desert town to the capital of a vast empire. till date, it is a blessed and important city. during Rasulullahs time, medina was a role model of a perfect city with all public facilities. this shows that Islam is not only for our spiritual advancement, but it also emphasises on material well being.
